Four years ago. A particularly passionate staff meeting. We’d already made our splash as being THE place to go for thoughtful arts criticism, poetry and fiction. As we set out the rest of our plan to change the world of contemporary magazines, we asked each other what we missed about newspapers of the past.
“Comics,” someone said.
Everyone nodded.
And so began our weekly Sunday Comics feature. Humble at first, with only six cartoons, it’s since grown to be thirty strips a week, featuring the finest Creative Commons-licensed comics in the world and public domain comics from the dawn of published comic strip history as well.
It remains our most intellectual feature. As it should be.
In celebration of our 200th week of Sunday Comics, we bring you an extra large cavalcade of comics. Enjoy.
