As a female comic, a dark comedy club is a scary place. Although bright lights are hardly a “girl” of forty’s best friend, I’ll take unflattering over creepy any day. At the brightly lit People’s Republic Kafe (coffee shop), along with the cheery lighting, there also comes a warm welcoming attitude courtesy of Kevin Hyder and Tristan Devin. From the beginning, they have created such a friendly, supportive venue for an open mic that really great comics flock there for The People’s Republic Open Mic. We’re talking really funny comics; did I mention that it’s free? So go and cheer them on, you won’t be sorry.
